There is an existing Military line on Stone- -cutters Island connected with the mainland and Hongkong, and the Military Authorities are being requested to fit a telephone from their system into the Wireless Telegraph Station. This could be used as an alternative route in case of the breakdown of the Naval Line. The provision of the independent and direct Naval line is

considered essential for reliability and efficiency.

Arrangements will be made to use the metallic cores of the two cables referred to in paragraph 1 for ordinary communication, but in the event of the breakdown of any one cable,

a likely contingency due to the large number of Chinese junks anchol ring in the vicinity, the core of the remaining cable will be used

with the armouring as a retum circuit.
